In the first instance, Whitebirds stylish looks and amazing level of finish and detail gives you an idea that this isn't just any yacht... When you then fully appreciate the racing history when she was known as "Bobsled", it becomes clear that Whitebirds is a "very special yacht"!The boat had an extensive rebuild in 2012 completed by Blackline Shipping in the Gold Coast, Queensland.
Essentially the boat was re-built and converted from a basic racing yacht to a very modern and comfortable, fast cruising boat.
Major works such as new keel, carbon mast, furling boom, complete deck and sailing function re-design, custom interior fitout, new engine and generator where fitted. All plumbing and electrical completely replaced.
Whitebirds is meticulously maintained and is without doubt a superb, very fast and comfortable short-handed cruising boat and is a real credit to her owners for over 25 years!
They have enjoyed many years of cruising, Wednesday afternoon racing in Brisbane and coastal and regatta racing on the East Coast of Australia.

Accommodation
Whitebird's has a 3-guest cabin layout with large, open saloon, navigation station and galley.
The interior finish is very inviting, featuring beautifully varnished teak timber joinery and floorboards, satin painted panels, and fabric headliners. The galley and navigation benchtops are finished in gloss clear carbon and the lighting throughout is warm.
Main Saloon: The main saloon is flooded with natural light thanks to large coach roof windows and windscreen, plus ample Maxwell deck hatches which provide good ventilation in addition to the air conditioning throughout the vessel.
To port and forward of the galley is a dinette for 6 people, and a lounge to starboard. The seating is finished in white leather, carpet fitted to the sole and there is great storage outboard of the seating areas. A Samsung flat screen TV is mounted on the main bulkhead and the saloon is complimented by a Bose Surround Sound stereo system, and cleverly designed bar and Heller icemaker.
Navigation: To starboard, and alongside the companionway is a large navigation desk with fold out stool and all navigation aids at your fingertips, as well as management of the electrical system onboard. The desk has suitable storage under the lid, and accommodates a drawer freezer, access to battery switches and communication equipment.
Forward Guest Cabin: The large, full beam guest cabin forward has a double berth to port, suitable storage to starboard and has great natural light thanks to large deck hatches, and hull windows. Just aft of this private cabin is a large ensuite with electric flush toilet, vanity with basin and shower facilities. There is also access to the large sail locker forward of this cabin.
Aft Guest Cabin: The aft cabin accommodates a queen-sized berth that runs athwartships, plus a lovely "day bed" under the hull windows outboard of the main berth. The ensuite for this cabin is to port and features electric flush toilet, vanity unit and shower facilities.
Midships Cabin: The midships accommodation is designed as a flexible space. Whilst very comfortable and easily converted to an additional private double cabin, this space is also great for a kids retreat, quick overnight or delivery/ crew accommodation or just a great space to relax whilst on passage. There is a double bed to port, and a large "sofa bed" to starboard. This area again is well ventilated by hatches and air-conditioning, plus has great light thanks to these hatches and hull windows.

Whitebird's is fitted with a 12V DC and 220V AC electrical system.
The 12V DC house system is supplied by a 1,200A/h Lithium battery bank, and this bank services all the major consumers on board the vessel such as sailing functions, accommodation, and navigation equipment.
The system has charging via 5 x 140amp solar panels (linked to system by MPPT converter), 160amp alternator on the main engine, generator, or shore power Victron Energy Inverter/ charger. All 12V systems controlled via the switch board in navigation station and onboard monitoring systems are also located here.
There is a stand-alone 12V battery system under the forward berth that comprises of 3 x 130A/h HVT-86 lead acid batteries for the bow thruster, anchor windlass and forward fridge/ freezer. This battery bank has its own Mastervolt 12/35amp battery charger.
Engine and generator have stand-alone start batteries plus emergency parallel and the entire system is protected by manual isolation switches.
The 220V AC, single phase system is throughout the vessel with standard GPOs in each cabin plus operates the Air Conditioning, water maker, hot water heater and cooking onboard. The AC system can be supplied via the inverter, generator, or shore power.

The mast and boom were replaced during the refit in 2012 with a carbon fibre, 3-spreader mast and carbon fibre furling boom from NZ Rigging. The mast has Nitronic rod rigging (2012) and all suitable running rigging.
The furling boom is electrically operated by 24V motor for easy furl/ reefing and suitably accommodates the fully battened mainsail. The headsail is also furling via a Harken MK IV manual furler (furl via electric winch), and the mast features a 2:1 staysail halyard and furling staysail, and masthead halyards for flying sails.
All suitable running rigging is included such as headsail and spinnaker sheets.
The masthead accommodates Raymarine wind anemometer, VHF aerial, lightning protection, and Windex.

The deck fittings where all replaced during the refit and are a collaboration of Ronstan and Harken fittings/ winches in Stainless Steel. All new Maxwell deck hatches were fitted, and the winch package upgraded:

- 2 x Harken 60 2-speed, self-tailing, 12V electric halyard/ sheet winches

All stanchions, pulpit, pushpits and other rails, posts and all custom mooring cleats are polished stainless-steel.
