" Solway Lass " - The current business was established 24 years ago by the Directors of Southern Cross Sailing Adventures. Solway Lass is one of the most sought-after Charter Vessels in the area catering for 32 passengers and 5 crew. It is the oldest continuously operated charter vessel in Australia. It oozes charm and has an amazing history having started operations in 1902.
The boat sails passengers around the beautiful Whitsunday Islands for various charters throughout the year. In summer it concentrates on two scheduled three-day-two-night trips per week. In winter it does a range of charters from 'Walk the Whitsundays', and 'Swim the Whitsundays' Private charters and School Excursions, keeping the vessel busy throughout the year. Solway Lass averages 44 weeks of charter each year.
LOCATION:
Solway Lass currently operates out of Coral Sea Marina, a major gateway to the Whitsundays, its 74 islands and the Great Barrier Reef. Solway Lass sails passengers through the magnificent Whitsunday Islands, stopping at beautiful diving/snorkelling sites, including Blue Pearl Bay, Langford Island overlooking Hayman Island and the World Famous "Whitehaven Beach".
AIRLIE BEACH:
The coastal town of Airlie Beach is the ideal base for fun and adventure in the Whitsundays. This vibrant town with its alfresco dining, lagoon, beaches, and National Parks is 2 hours north of Mackay and 3 ½ hours south of Townsville. The area and its islands are a popular weekend getaway or relaxing holiday for both families and couples, with direct flights available from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
Airlie Beach, Proserpine, and the Whitsunday Islands are part of the Whitsunday Regional Council. Within this area, a population of 31,500 increases during racing season, school holidays, and winter when the Grey Nomads travel north.
With the world-renowned Whitehaven Beach at its doorstep, thousands of backpackers visit Airlie Beach each year to experience this 7km stretch of brilliant white silica sand and Hill Inlet, where the sand and water shift with the tide to create amazing colours and breathtaking photos.
Airlie Beach and the surrendering areas have plenty to offer families. This includes schooling (4 primary schools, 2 secondary schools) and extra-curricular activities such as gymnastics, soccer, AFL, netball, football, karate, taekwondo, dancing, skating, and swimming, to name a few.
